ELTA North America, an Israeli-owned defense manufacturer, is opening a Cyber Innovation Center at its Annapolis Junction headquarters.
Modeled after innovation centers at ELTA’s facilities in Israel and other countries, the innovation center will focus on adapting technology and international property from Israel for use by ELTA’s commercial customers in the United States, said Dan Bader, vice president of business operations.
“The U.S. is a huge market for cyber security, and they want to use that model for success initially in the commercial market,” and eventually among government clients, Bader said.
The center could lead to even more growth for ELTA, which opened its new, expanded headquarters in Annapolis Junction in May.
Its 21,500-square-foot facility there replaces a much smaller facility in Fulton.
“We’re already bursting at the seams,” Bader said.
When the company debuted the new space, it committed to hiring 50 workers over the next few years, for a staff of more than 100 by the end of 2018.
“We are pleased to establish our footprint for cyber in Maryland,” said Eric Womble, CEO and president of ELTA North America, in a statement. “We look forward to tapping into the state’s strong cybersecurity market and well-trained workforce.”
